Underfloor Heating in Essex
Thomas installs wet underfloor heating systems across Essex and Hertfordshire, including Bishop's Stortford, Dunmow, Harlow and the surrounding area. Underfloor heating is most cost-effective when it's planned into a build or renovation before the floors go down. If you're extending your home or laying new floors, it's worth discussing before the groundwork closes.
Wet underfloor heating, also called hydronic UFH, uses pipes laid under the floor and connected to a manifold. Warm water from your boiler circulates through the pipes and heats the floor surface from below, radiating heat evenly across the room. Unlike radiators, which heat air near the wall and leave the floor cold, underfloor heating creates an even temperature at floor level. It also runs at lower water temperatures than a standard radiator circuit, which makes it well-suited to modern condensing boilers.
Thomas supplies and installs the pipework, the manifold and the controls. He works alongside the groundworkers or builder on site to make sure everything is in place before the screed or final floor finish goes on. Underfloor heating is particularly effective in open-plan spaces where radiator placement is limited by the layout. It frees up wall space, eliminates cold spots and runs more quietly than a standard radiator circuit.
The one thing to understand clearly is that UFH heats up slowly. It's not designed to be switched on and off on demand, which is where a smart thermostat makes a significant difference. A smart thermostat learns the warm-up time over the first few weeks and starts heating the floor well before you need the room at temperature. For anyone building an extension or undertaking a renovation, installation is most straightforward while the floors are open.
